Energy Efficiency for Small Businesses

Operation Fuel helps small business owners lower their energy costs and improve their profitability.
Our small business programs connect owners to energy efficiency opportunities and offer grants to help small businesses make energy efficiency upgrades.
Regardless of your business type, your small business may qualify for assistance.

Small businesses can access a range of energy efficiency resources through Operation Fuel:

  • Get a free energy assessment with individualized recommendations for improving energy efficiency at your business.
  • Assistance in finding the most appropriate energy efficiency program for your business and your situation.
  • Finance Assistance: grants and other financial incentives are available for some small businesses interested in becoming more energy efficient.
  1. Contact our Small Business Program. There are three ways to reach us:
    • Tell us about yourself and your needs using the form at the top of this page, or
    • Call Julian Freund,┬áDirector of Energy Conservation Programs, at (860) 243-2345 ext. 3308, or
    • Email Julian Freund at julian@operationfuel.org
  2. After a brief consultation, we will either make arrangements for an energy evaluation for your business or refer you to the program or organization that can best meet your specific needs.
  3. Once your energy assessment is complete, you will have the information you need to access the programs and resources that can help your small business achieve optimal energy efficiency. We will help you access financial incentives to help pay for energy efficiency upgrades and, in many cases, Operation Fuel can provide financial assistance, as well.
  • What is an energy assessment?
An energy assessment (also called an “energy audit”) is an evaluation of energy usage at your business’ facility. An authorized contractor will visit your business to determine what opportunities you have for increasing energy efficiency. The contractor will look at lighting, refrigeration, heating, and cooling at your business. For most small businesses, the energy assessment takes less than an hour.
  • Is there a cost for the energy assessment?
No. The energy assessment (energy audit) is free. In fact, in some cases, small business owners can earn a credit on their electric bill for completing an energy assessment.
  • How do I request an energy assessment?
    By phone: (860) 243-2345 ext. 3308
    By email: julian@operationfuel.org
  • Do I have to own the building my business is in?
No. Most small businesses that participate in our programs lease their business space.
