Operation Fuel Seeking Donations To Help Meet Need for Energy Assistance
As requests for energy assistance continue to come in from struggling families this winter, Operation Fuel is seeking individual donations to help meet the need.
“When people turn to Operation Fuel for help, we usually are their last resort. There’s no other safety net for them. So if we can’t help, they usually don’t get the energy assistance that they desperately need,” explained Executive Director Patricia Wrice.
Through mid-February of this year, Operation Fuel had already committed to give out more than $2 million in energy assistance to Connecticut households. Most of this money has come from corporate and state grants with private donations accounting for a small percent of the grant money distributed to date.
“If Operation Fuel can raise more money through donations, then we will be able to help more households,” said Wrice. Operation Fuel’s goal is to raise at least $1 million from individual donors this winter, but so far has raised only $250,000.
Add-a-Dollar Program is Easy Way to Help Struggling Families with Energy Bills
Operation Fuel would like to remind Connecticut residents to consider contributing one dollar or more to the non-profit through the Add-a-Dollar program when paying monthly utility bills.
“This is an easy way to help Connecticut families who need energy assistance. And 100 percent of this money goes directly to Operation Fuel,” explains Executive Director Patricia Wrice.
Last year, Operation Fuel raised $517,288 through the Add-a-Dollar program.
Through the end of January [2013], Operation Fuel has already given more than $1 million in energy grants.
